About the Journal: Shraman is a quarterly research journal devoted to the
advancement of Jainological studies and allied disciplines. The journal is
committed to promoting rigorous, original, and interdisciplinary scholarship
rooted in both classical and contemporary research methodologies.
Published under the auspices of Parshwanath Vidyapeeth, Varanasi, Shraman serves as a
national and international platform for scholars working in Jain Philosophy,
Religion, Literature, Ethics, and Cultural Studies.
Aim and Scope
The journal publishes original and high-quality research in the following areas:
Jain Philosophy and Religion; Jain Ethics and Applied Philosophy; Prakrit,
Pali, and Sanskrit Studies; Comparative Religion and Philosophy;
Manuscriptology and Textual Criticism; Epigraphy and Archaeology related to
Jain Studies; and Cultural, Historical, and Interdisciplinary Studies connected with Jain traditions.
The journal particularly encourages critical, analytical, and interdisciplinary
approaches.
Types of Contributions:
Shraman Journal accepts Original Research Articles,
Critical
and Analytical Studies, Textual Editions and Annotated Translations, Review
Articles and Book Reviews
Manuscript Length Research Articles: 4,000–8,000 words Short
Articles / Research Notes: 2,000–3,000 words
(Word count includes footnotes and
references.)
Language Policy Manuscripts may be submitted in English or Hindi.
All submissions must be typed in font- Sanskrit Text 2003. Sanskrit, Prakrit, and
Pali citations must be in Unicode format.
English articles must use consistent IAST transliteration (with diacritical marks).
Formatting Guidelines MS Word format (.doc / .docx), Font: Sanskrit Text 2003, Font size: 10 pt, Single
line spacing, 1-inch margins (2.54 cm) on all sides, and fully justified text Page
numbers at bottom centre, Footnotes: 10 pt, single spacing. Title page in 14
pt. font size.
Structure of the Manuscript
Manuscripts must be organized in the following order:
i. Title of the Paper,
Author(s)’ Name(s), Institutional Affiliation(s), Email Address(es)
ii. Abstract (150–250
words) with Keywords (4–6, not repeating title words)
iii. Introduction
iv. Literature Review and Methodology (where applicable)
v.Analysis / Discussion
vi.Conclusion and Acknowledgements (if any)
vii.References / Bibliography
Citation and Referencing Style Authors
must consistently follow one of the following: APA
(7th Edition) and Chicago Manual of Style (Notes & Bibliography – preferred
for Indological Studies)
For classical texts, full bibliographic details (edition, editor, publisher, year)
must be provided.
Publication Ethics: Shraman
adheres to recognized academic and ethical standards in scholarly publishing:
Submissions must be original and unpublished.
Manuscripts must not be under consideration elsewhere.
All papers are subject to plagiarism screening.
Excessive similarity, including self-plagiarism, will result in rejection. Proper
acknowledgement of sources is mandatory.
Editorial Review
Policy:
All manuscripts undergo initial screening by the Editorial Board to assess:
Relevance, Originality, Academic quality, Conformity with journal guidelines,
Decisions include:
Acceptance, Minor Revision, Major Revision, and Rejection
The Editorial Board holds final authority regarding publication.
Tables, Figures and Illustrations Must
be numbered consecutively (Table 1, Figure 1, etc.)
Must include clear captions and proper source references,
Images must be minimum 300 dpi resolution,
Authors are responsible for copyright permissions.
